NATO ARW Leaflet Ohrid

The city of Ohrid is located at Ohrid Lake in the western part of the Republic of Macedonia, 170km from the capitol Skopje. Ohrid has been living town for two thousand and four hundred years. As an Episcopial centre in ancient times, and likewise through the widely renowned Ohrid archbishopric, the town through the centuries has represented the entire ecclesiastical history of Macedonia. Trough the activity of St. Clement of Ohrid, the first pan-Slavonic University in Europe was situated here. The age of the lake is about four million years. The lake lies in a basin surrounded by mountains with peaks over 2.000m. Lake Ohrid rightly deserves the name “Macedonian’s freshwater see”. Today Ohrid is a cultural, spiritual and tourist centre of Macedonia. And finally, as the crowning glory of its values, Ohrid and the Lake Ohrid have been declared a world cultural and natural heritage under the protection of UNESCO since 1980.
The ARW will be held in the University Congress Centre located at the shore of Ohrid Lake about 6 km south from the center of old city.
